Bright & Duggan Group is seeking a technically strong and commercially minded Senior Accountant to join our Specialised Strata Finance & Advisory team.
This is an opportunity to work across complex Building Management Committees, Building Management Groups, mixed-use developments and other sophisticated property structures. You will combine hands-on accounting with financial analysis, stakeholder engagement, advisory support and process improvement.
You may currently be working as a Senior Property Accountant, Senior Financial Accountant or Senior Trust Accountant within a commercial real estate, property development, investment, asset management or integrated property services organisation.
The opportunity
As the Senior Accountant, Specialised Strata Finance & Advisory, you will be the finance specialist for an assigned portfolio of complex property schemes.
You will prepare and review high-quality financial information, investigate accounting issues, improve financial controls and explain complex outcomes clearly to strata managers, committees and other stakeholders.
Working closely with the Manager, Specialised Strata Finance & Advisory, you will also help develop new reporting methodologies, governance frameworks and advisory services. Your contribution will strengthen both the specialised finance team and Bright & Duggan Group’s broader strata finance capability.
About the role:
Technical accounting and financial management
- Prepare and review journals, reconciliations, financial statements and supporting workpapers.
- Manage the financial administration of complex BMCs, BMGs and mixed-use developments.
- Ensure accounting treatments comply with AASB, IFRS and company accounting policies.
- Investigate accounting anomalies, financial risks and control weaknesses.
- Recommend practical corrective actions and process improvements.
- Support year-end reporting, audits and complex accounting assessments.
- Maintain accurate supporting documentation and high-quality audit evidence.
Stakeholder engagement and service delivery
- Act as the primary finance specialist for your assigned schemes.
- Partner with strata managers, committees, clients and internal stakeholders.
- Explain financial results, accounting treatments and governance requirements in clear, practical language.
- Participate in committee and client meetings where financial matters are discussed.
- Build confidence in financial reporting through responsive service and technical expertise.
- Help stakeholders understand financial reports, cost allocations, funding arrangements and accounting outcomes.
- Accurately manage time across client and internal activities to support sustainable service delivery and commercial performance.
Advisory and capability development
- Support tender responses, business cases and the onboarding of complex schemes.
- Help design practical financial solutions for new developments and specialised property structures.
- Prepare financial analysis, briefing papers and recommendations for stakeholder decision-making.
- Contribute to new advisory services and financial governance frameworks.
- Translate technical accounting requirements into practical operational solutions.
Process improvement and leadership
- Challenge inefficient practices and identify opportunities to improve quality, controls and service delivery.
- Develop templates, reporting packs, controls and process documentation.
- Support automation initiatives and the responsible adoption of technology and AI-enabled solutions.
- Share technical knowledge and contribute to the capability of the broader strata finance team.
- Mentor junior team members and support their professional development.
About you:
You are a confident and technically capable accountant with strong property-sector experience. You enjoy solving complex problems and can translate detailed financial information into clear, commercially relevant advice.
You are comfortable working independently, managing competing deadlines and exercising professional judgement. You also understand that excellent accounting is not only about producing accurate numbers. It is about helping clients and stakeholders understand what those numbers mean and what action should follow.
You will bring:
- A minimum of three to four years’ experience in property finance or accounting.
- Experience preparing and reviewing journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, financial statements and audit workpapers.
- Exposure to finance processes such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payments, cost allocations and statutory compliance.
- Experience identifying and resolving accounting issues, anomalies and financial control weaknesses.
- The ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to produce clear, insightful variance analysis.
- Experience working with reporting deliverables, time recording or billable activities.
- The ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgement.
- A proactive approach to improving processes and establishing structure in complex environments.
Qualifications
- A tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, commerce or a related discipline.
- CA or CPA qualification, or be nearing completion with substantial relevant experience.
Additional study or professional exposure in property, real estate, infrastructure, governance, project management, consulting or advisory services will be well regarded.
